Job Title: Visiting Professor in Social Work

Summary of Position:    The Division of Behavioral Sciences at Indiana Wesleyan University seeks applications for a one-year Visiting Social Work Faculty position on the residential Marion, Indiana campus. The Division of Behavioral Sciences is home to four majors: social work, psychology, addictions counseling, and pre-art therapy, as well as a minor in sociology. We have 13 full-time faculty members and approximately 350 majors. The Bachelor of Social Work program has been accredited by the Council on Social Work Education for more than 25 years, and the Master of Social Work program was added three years ago.
The ideal candidate will combine teaching with scholarly endeavors. The ideal candidate should show evidence of personal faith in Jesus Christ, full agreement with the Wesleyan-Arminian theology, and commitment to liberal arts learning and the integration of Christian faith and learning.
Position to begin fall 2024 pending funding.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach courses to support the BSW and MSW programs
  • Create an inclusive classroom climate that is conducive to learning
  • Select teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to the students and setting
  • Present ideas clearly
  • Provide constructive and instructive feedback on student work
  • Effectively use the IWU learning management system to distribute course materials to students
  • Counsel students on vocational issues
  • Display behavior consistent with the National Association of Social Worker’s Code of Ethics
  • Engage in scholarly activities within and outside the department
  • Participate in professional organizations 

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

• A master’s degree in social work is required and an earned doctorate in social work is preferred.

Experience

• Minimum three years post-MSW practice experience
• At least one year of teaching experience, preferred

• Ability to demonstrate a mature personal faith in Jesus Christ and a willingness to embrace the theological and lifestyle commitments of The Wesleyan Church
• Interpersonal skills that facilitate relationship building and teamwork among colleagues and students
• Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques
• Evaluation skills related to the impact of teaching on learning, and the ability to make modifications in instructional design based on that evaluation
• Ability to provide constructive feedback to students in oral and written form
• Proficiency in using computers, internet resources, MS Office and Learning Management software
• Oral and written comprehension

• Speech clarity
• Ability to advise, instruct, manage and motivate students for excellence in their academic pursuits
• Ability to effectively work with students, faculty, support staff and the general public in a professional manner
