Position Summary
The Indiana University Kokomo School of Nursing & Allied Health Professions (SNAHP) invites applications for a full-time 10-month Visiting Lecturer in Nursing position, with appointment beginning August 1, 2024. One of eight campuses of Indiana University, Indiana University Kokomo, is a comprehensive non-residential campus located 50 miles north of Indianapolis in Kokomo, Indiana, a city with a population of about 57,000. Committed to student success, the campus serves approximately 3,100 students from a 14-county area in north-central Indiana. IU Kokomo has around 260 full-time faculty and staff. Basic Qualifications
Teaching Responsibilities:
Plan Curricula:
  • Prepare and revise syllabi for assigned courses.
  • Develop appropriate evaluation measures for assigned courses.
  • Develop learning experiences and materials necessary to implement the curriculum.
  • Collaborate in the development of the curriculum and/or evaluation plan for each degree being offered.

Teach Assigned Courses:
  • Use syllabi and curriculum plan to teach courses.
  • Plan student activities to facilitate student mastery of content.
  • Follow SNAHP policy/procedure to maintain fair, safe, and high-quality student outcomes.
  • Gain or maintain currency/expertise in field being taught and in teaching methodology being used.
  • Seek improvement and innovation that may improve student learning or satisfaction.

Evaluate Student Performance:
  • Choose high quality evaluative measures adequate to differentiate variable levels of student learning/performance.
  • Participate in evaluation measurement in relevant courses.
  • Use measures of student performance to revise teaching plan.
  • Participate in gathering and analysis of program evaluation data.

Collaborate With Faculty, Adjunct Teachers, Community Partners, and Other Stakeholders to organize and implement the curriculum.
  • Communicate in a clear and timely way issues that arise in the organization and implementation of the curriculum.
  • Takes a leadership role in communicating with adjunct teachers in the lab or clinical sections relevant to the course being taught.
  • Collaborate with members of the community, such as clinical agencies, schools, and organizations to provide high quality service, clinical, and lab learning experiences that are relevant to the course(s) being taught.

Collects, analyzes, and uses the results of multiple measures of teaching effectiveness in the process of self-improvement.
  • Gathers, reports, and analyzes student satisfaction measures.
  • Gathers, reports, and analyzes evidence of student learning.
  • Uses peer evaluation to improve teaching effectiveness.
  • Engage in continuous self-improvement in the role of teacher.
  • Provide annual report to the School of Nursing according to guidelines.

Service Responsibilities:
Serve on IU Kokomo SNAHP Committees as assigned.
  • Provide active contribution as a member of each committee.
  • As development in the faculty role progresses, demonstrates leadership in this arena.
  • Visiting lecturers are not chairs of IU Kokomo School of Nursing Committees

Serves on IU Kokomo and/or IU Committees as assigned.
  • Provide active contribution as a member of each committee.
  • As development in the faculty role progresses, demonstrates leadership in this arena.

Provide student advising as assigned.
Mentor faculty and students.
Participate in student recruitment/retention activities.
Engage in service outside the University (examples include):
  • Mentor colleagues from outside IU Kokomo.
  • Participate in professional organizations.
  • Serve on professional boards, offices, or committees.
  • Sponsor/advise student organizations.
  • Make service presentations.
  • Consult for organizations.
