Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati School of Social Work is searching for a Visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor who will contribute to the department’s teaching and service missions. The ideal applicant will be an experienced educator with an established record of professional practice and service. This is a one-year, 12-month position to begin in summer or fall semester 2022. Rank commensurate with credentials and experience.


Essential Functions
  • The Visiting Instructor /Assistant Professor is primarily responsible for teaching and service in the undergraduate and graduate social work programs.
  • Teaching responsibilities include, but are not limited to: primary instruction of didactic courses using traditional classroom and/or online teaching modalities including knowledge and skill in the use of computer technology and educational learning management systems; course development; field liaison work; and advising responsibilities.
  • Service responsibilities may include participation in recruitment, retention, and admissions activities; program committee work and other tasks as assigned by the Program Director and/or Department Head. 
  • All faculty are expected to have a demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Minimum Requirements
  • Master of Social Work degree
  • Two years post-MSW practice experience as a professional social worker. 
  • Three years of successful teaching /academic experience in social work.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated expertise in direct practice.
  • Ability to teach in at least two of the following areas: direct practice, mental health practice, social work theory, and research methodologies.
  • Experience in mentoring students.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including communication, problem solving, counseling, conflict management, and follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to take direction and coordinate work with colleagues, peers, and community partners.

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • PhD or DSW in Social Work
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as an independent social worker in the State of Ohio.
  • Active in professional activities.
