Summary of Job Duties:

This is a visiting, one-year full-time appointment at the instructor or professorate level to be determined by qualifications. Teach a wide range of undergraduate mathematics and statistics courses including general education, service, and mathematics/statistics major/minor courses. The position reports to Department Chair of Mathematics.

Qualifications:

Education & Work Experience: Minimum requirements include a master’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or statistics, including a minimum of 18 hours in mathematics/statistics. An earned doctorate or A.B.D. in mathematics, statistics, or mathematics education are required for a visiting assistant professor.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • 100% Classroom Instruction, teaching 30 credit hours for the academic year.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrating a commitment to student success
  • Demonstrating innovation in the classroom including good use of technology
  • Teaching in both in-person and online formats as assigned
  • Maintaining student records and communicating regularly with students
  • Maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a collaborative manner to foster teamwork and to provide leadership for the department
  • Maintaining a good work ethic including consistent on-time attendance

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:

  • Ability to effectively teach a wide-range of entry-level general education mathematics courses, many to non-majors and first generation students
  • Ability to teach courses in calculus and other areas serving a wide variety of majors.
  • Preferred:  Ability to teach upper level courses in mathematics/statistics supporting the major and minors in mathematics and statistics, including directing undergraduate research
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching including the utilization of classroom technology and well-developed communication skills
  • Demonstration of deep pedagogical knowledge of mathematics and connections among mathematical ideas

Working Relationships: Works on a daily basis with faculty, students, and staff campus-wide.

Salary Information:


$45,000 - $50,000 for one year contract, Commensurate with education/experience
