Position Summary
The Counseling Program invites applications for a Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor position. This will be a full-time, non-tenure track, 10-month appointment (beginning 08/1/2024) in the Counseling and Counseling Psychology Programs within the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology in the Indiana University Bloomington School of Education. This appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year.
Position Description:
The Counseling program is seeking a candidate who can contribute to our growing undergraduate Counseling and Student Services (CASS) major and our undergraduate Counseling minor. Our ideal candidate will have a commitment to undergraduate teaching, and the ability to provide pedagogical supervision and training to doctoral students who are serving as primary instructors for undergraduate courses. Examples of undergraduate courses in our programs include Introduction to Counseling Psychology, Positive Psychology, Addictions Counseling, and Multicultural Counseling-Related Skills, among others. The ideal candidate will also be able to incorporate service-learning principles into courses that utilize this content (e.g., Communication for Youth Serving Professionals, Resources for Counseling With Youth) and facilitate relationships with agencies that support service-learning for these courses.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate courses in the Counseling and Student Services (CASS) major and the Counseling minor. The position will maintain a 3 fall/3 spring courseload
  • Design and coordinate a program to deliver pedagogical training to the Associate Instructors, and supervise these Associate Instructors who are teaching undergraduate courses, observing and providing feedback to their teaching
  • Collaborate with the Office of Undergraduate and Teacher Education (UTE ) and the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL ) to coordinate the service-learning requirements of the undergraduate curriculum
  • Contribute to university, school, department, and program related service activities, such as interviewing applicants for doctoral and master’s programs, mentoring students, advising master’s students, etc.

Program Information:
The Counseling and Counseling Psychology Programs are housed within the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology. The Counseling programs at IU include an undergraduate major, undergraduate minor, MPCAC accredited master’s programs in mental health counseling and addictions, and an APA-accredited PhD program in counseling psychology.   • Doctorate in Counseling Psychology or closely related field by start date

Additional Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years of university teaching experience and interest in teaching at the undergraduate level
  • Two years of counseling related experience including having a license or being license eligible
  • Interest in the scholarship of teaching or research (quantitative or qualitative)
