Unit Mission Statement | Linguistics is the study of language both as a faculty of mind and as a social institution. Linguistics at William & Mary is an interdisciplinary program. Linguistics majors learn about speech sounds, word formation, and sentence structure in the world’s languages, along with models for representing linguistic knowledge in the mind and tools for discovering the structure of different languages. They also study language change, including the history of English, and language variation within communities, including its social and political bases. |
Position Summary | The Linguistics Program at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a two-year, non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor of Linguistics instructional position that will begin August 10, 2024. The successful candidate will align with and enhance the program’s existing curriculum areas. Specific sub-discipline is open, but the successful applicant must be able to teach a typology course on cross-linguistic patterns, as well as teach sections of our introductory course and offer compelling mid-level topics courses. The successful applicant will be expected to be an effective teacher and mentor and will have a 3/3 teaching load. |
Required Qualifications | PhD at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2024). |
Preferred Qualifications | Previous teaching experience at the university level is preferred. |
