Position Highlights This position will serve as the interim director of the Masters in Native American Language program (NAMA), including teaching and graduate student supervision for this program, as well as additional undergraduate or graduate teaching.

Candidate is applying for a non-tenure track position, in the Department of Linguistics. Employment will begin mid-August 2024. This position will be hired to teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses, with a 2/2 workload (one course each semester is a 4-unit course, hence this is a load of 14 teaching units/year rather than the standard 12). This is a benefits eligible position. This is a two-year position, expected to last from Fall 2024 through Spring 2026.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include:
Teach 4 courses/year, primarily in the NAMA program and in areas of Language Revitalization and Native American languages. This will include the NAMA Workshop course that is central to the NAMA program in fall and spring semesters (Ling 597A).  It may also include other graduate as well as undergraduate courses in this topic area and in the applicant's specialization, including courses in the General Education program.  The candidate will also make various contributions to the AILDI program.

Advise, direct, and recruit students, particularly in the NAMA program, but possibly also in other programs of the Department.
Supervise graduate teaching assistants as assigned.   Conduct research appropriate to the applicant's area of specialization and to the focus of the position.

Contribute to service work of the Department (e.g. committees) as well as to service at the college and university levels and to the field as appropriate.  Conduct community outreach work as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Linguistics or related area (e.g. AIS, Anthropology) with specialization in language revitalization, reclamation, documentation, or related areas.
  • Strong record of teaching appropriate to the applicant's current stage.    
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with one or more community-based language programs of indigenous languages of North America.
