Position Highlights

The University of Arizona School of Music invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Music-Violin (full-time, non-tenure track).

The successful candidate will teach and recruit outstanding undergraduate and graduate students, maintain an active profile as a performing artist and teacher, conduct weekly master classes, coach chamber music, and participate in service to the school, university, and greater community. Our faculty members also help to develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement and expanding collaborations with community and business partners. The successful candidate will be expected to support the School, the College, and the University in efforts to advance UA Inclusive Excellence, a focal point for campus diversity efforts and campus leadership.

The School of Music is one of the country’s top comprehensive music programs, home to innovative faculty members who are leaders in their fields as educators, scholars, and active performers. The faculty include approximately 60 specialists across performance, music education, jazz studies, composition, conducting, music theory, musicology, and ethnomusicology, who provide rigorous training to over 300 undergraduate and 150 master’s and doctoral music majors. Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach and recruit outstanding undergraduate and graduate violin students
  • Maintain an active profile as a performing artist and teacher
  • Conduct weekly master classes
  • Coach chamber music
  • Teach pedagogy, literature, and other courses according to qualifications, interest, and/or need of the school, as assigned
  • Advise doctoral students through the dissertation process, including recitals and document preparation
  • Participate in service and outreach to the School, College, University, community, and profession
  • Lead and collaborate effectively with colleagues on events including community outreach and engagement, recruiting, hosting of festivals, and auditions

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Violin
  • Record of successful teaching
Preferred Qualifications
  • D.M.A. or extensive professional experience
  • Exceptional performer with professional activity in violin performance at the regional, national or international level.
  • Engagement in creative work and outreach that thoughtfully and conscientiously engages the community, such as work with K-12 schools, community music programs, and/or state professional organizations.
  • Experience advising and mentoring graduate students who represent a diverse demographic.
  • Record of successful teaching at the University level.
