Brief Position Overview
The Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at Montana State University-Bozeman invites applications for a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor of French & Francophone Studies position starting August 15, 2024. The initial appointment will be for one year with potential for renewal. We are looking for an exceptional teacher with a track record of teaching both lower and upper-division French courses at the university level. The position, open to all fields of specialization, involves a typical teaching load of six courses per year, including language classes across all levels, survey courses, and undergraduate seminars. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to advise students and engage in both scholarship and service activities.

General Statement
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Montana State University is recruiting a Visiting Assistant Professor in French.
We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach six courses per year, conduct research, advise students, and participate in departmental and university service and community outreach. Duties include advising majors and minors.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Masters Degree in French (or the equivalent degree from a foreign university/educational institution).
  • Specialization is open; ability to teach a full range of language and culture courses in French and English.
  • Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • PhD in French (or the equivalent degree from a foreign university/educational institution).
  • Preference for interdisciplinary approaches to contemporary literature, culture, and languages for the professions.
  • The Successful Candidate Will
    • Have effective interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate successfully and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and students.

    The Department
    Modern Languages & Literatures offers a B.A. Degree with concentrations in Asian Studies, German Studies, French & Francophone Studies, Hispanic Studies, and Latin American & Latino Studies. Teaching options in French, German, and Spanish are also offered.
    The faculty is comprised of nine Tenure-Track members and an equal number of non-Tenure-Track instructors.
