Visiting Assistant Professor of Earth and Oceanographic Science (oceans)

The Bowdoin College Department of Earth and Oceanographic Science invites applications for a 1.5-year full-time visiting assistant professor to begin January 1, 2020. Possibility of an additional year (up to 2.5 years total) pending review and administrative approval. Ph.D. required by the time of appointment. The selected applicant will teach four courses per year, two with dedicated laboratory sections. Teaching responsibilities will emphasize intermediate-to-advanced courses in oceans disciplines and may also include an introductory oceanography course or non-majors courses. Expertise might include geological, physical, or biological oceanography, or marine biogeochemistry, or paleoceanography. Opportunities exist to mentor undergraduate students in honors and independent-study research. The College’s location along the rocky Maine coast provides excellent opportunities for field-based teaching and research. College facilities include the Schiller Coastal Studies Center, access to docks and small boats with in situ profiling hydrographic instrumentation, nutrient autoanalysis, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, ICP-OES spectrometry, petrographic microscopes with associated cameras, and SEM with CL/EDS/EBSD capabilities.
