The Bowdoin College Department of Earth and Oceanographic Science invites applications for a two-year full-time visiting assistant professor to begin July 1, 2019. Ph.D. required by the time of appointment. The selected applicant will normally teach four courses per year. Teaching responsibilities will emphasize intermediate to advanced courses in earth surface process disciplines and also may include introductory or non-majors courses. Two courses will have weekly laboratory sections. Expertise might include sedimentary systems, geomorphology, hydrogeology, glaciology, stratigraphy, basin analysis, petroleum geology, or remote sensing. Opportunities exist to mentor undergraduate students in honors and independent-study research. The College’s location along the Maine coast, including proximity to salt marsh and other sedimentary systems, and glacial history provide excellent opportunities for teaching and research. Department facilities include mineral, rock, and fossil collections, rock saws, petrographic microscopes, augmented reality sandbox, stream table, and SEM with CL/EDS/EBSD capabilities.
