Summary of Job Duties:

This Visiting Assistant Professor position is a full-time provisional position that includes the responsibilities of coordinating the metals/jewelry concentration within Applied Design (Ceramics, Metals, Woodworking), which includes teaching metals/jewelry courses, advising and mentoring students, participating in recruitment, retention, special programs, curriculum assessment, and development; maintaining an active scholarship agenda; and contributing to unit, college, and university service. Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • MFA in Metals/Jewelry or related field.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • University-level teaching experience beyond graduate assistantships;
  • Industry experience;
  • Experience with various 3D processes both traditional and digital;
  • A strong record of creative work and evidence of ongoing professional achievement;
  • Experience and commitment to working with diverse populations of learners.
  • Evidence of scholarship related to the position requirements.



Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teaching metals/jewelry courses and management of the curriculum;
  • Maintaining an active scholarship agenda;
  • Maintaining the metals studio;
  • Advising students in their major;
  • Supervision of student workers assigned to metals studio;
  • Supervision of adjunct faculty within the metals and jewelry area as needed;
  • Teaching foundation, art appreciation, and other studio disciplines related to training and seminar courses as needed.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of various metals/jewelry processes and media;
  • Knowledge of studio safety procedures;
  • Knowledge of computer software related to art, design, and teaching;
  • Demonstrated organizational skills;
  • Ability to teach multiple aspects of metalsmithing and jewelry design;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate;
  • Ability to demonstrate potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and advising;
  • Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with other faculty across the university;
  • Willingness to develop opportunities for engagement with the broader community.
