Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Department of Educational Leadership within the Watson College of Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) seeks an outstanding Visiting Assistant Professor for a nine-month, non-tenure track/non-tenured position in the Higher Education program beginning in August of 2024. This is a one-year fixed-term appointment, renewable year to year, up to three years.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Developing and teaching campus-based and web-enhanced hybrid courses (in-person and online simultaneously) or fully online courses in dynamic graduate programs focused on Higher Education
  • Assisting in the ongoing development of our growing M.Ed. in Higher Education and Ed.D. specializations in Higher Education and Community College Leadership
  • Advising students through completion of internships, culminating projects, and independent studies
  • Engaging in scholarly activities through research, presentations, and/or involvement in professional/scholarly associations
  • Contributing expertise through service to department, college, and university committees and activities
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Applicants for this position must hold a terminal degree (i.e., Ph.D., Ed.D.) in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field from an accredited (U.S.) or certified (international) postsecondary institution.
    • ABD candidates may be considered, but doctoral degree must be earned by August 2024.
  • Demonstrated evidence of engagement in teaching, research, and service.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Preference will be given to those candidates who have:
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful graduate-level teaching and mentoring.
  • Experience and expertise to teach multiple courses across the curriculum.
  • Professional experience working as a practitioner in the field of Higher Education/Student Affairs.

The Department of Educational Leadership offers four master’s-level graduate programs (Curriculum Studies in Equity, Evaluation and Organizational Learning, Higher Education, and School Administration) and three concentrations within the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership (Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Administration, and Higher Education), as well an undergraduate minor in Leadership Studies, and four post-baccalaureate certificates (Coaching and Mentoring, College Teaching and Learning, Community College Leadership, and Evaluation).

The Watson College of Education (WCE) (www.uncw.edu/ed ) is a rapidly growing college with over 65 tenure-track faculty members working in undergraduate and master’s programs in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education and the Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and master’s and doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership.
