Job Description:

MSGIS 2-year visiting Assistant Professor Position

The Graduate School of Geography at Clark University (www.clarku.edu/departments/geography) seeks to fill a 2-year visiting Assistant Professor position in Geographic Information Science (GIS) to begin August 2024. The hired faculty will also contribute to the curriculum in the Department of Sustainability and Social Justice. Major responsibilities will be to teach technical GIS courses, including Python Programming, Computer Programming for GIS, Spatial Database Development and Web Mapping and Open Source GIS.  In addition, the ability and willingness to teach introductory and intermediate-level statistics courses will be viewed favorably.   The hired faculty will be expected to teach 5 courses per academic year in addition to engaging in student advising as it relates to Clark's Master of Science in GIS (MSGIS). Renewal for the second year will be contingent upon satisfactory performance in year one.


Requirements:

A PhD in Geography or related discipline is required at time of appointment. The successful candidate will have strong competency in geospatial research methods, including advanced geoprocessing, spatial statistics, computer programming for GIS or web mapping. Examples include demonstrated experience using and teaching programming languages such as Python and related GIS packages or front-end web development for mapping applications using technologies such as Mapbox, LeafletJS, or hosting and spatial database management using PostGIS or similar.  Strong knowledge of ESRI's ArcPro is required; familiarity with QGIS is desired.  Knowledge of, and ability to teach, statistics courses will be an added strength.
