The Department of French & Italian at The University of Texas at Austin seeks to hire a one-year, non-renewable position as Visiting Assistant Professor in French Linguistics (research specialization is open).  Primary duties include teaching undergraduate French linguistics courses such as Introduction to French linguitics, French phonetics, and French sociolinguistics.  In addition, we seek a scholar adept at creating and teaching interdisciplinary upper division undergraduate courses and a graduate seminar that would integrate linguistics with other disciplines (e.g., literary, media, and/or cultural studies) with a goal of appealing to a diverse cohort of French Studies students.


Qualifications

Applicants must hold a PhD in French and native or near-native fluency in French.  Preferred qualifications include demonstrated excellence in research and teaching, skills to create interdisciplinary French courses, a record of work on a wide variety of linguistic sources (e.g., literary, converstational, social media texts) and interests in dialectal/sociolectal variation in Romance languages.  Additionally, we seek applicants familiar with current teaching methodologies/technologies and experience teaching French in a U.S. institution of higher education.

Please submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, one writing sample (up to 25 pages), teaching dossier including sample of undergraduate and graduate syllabi and a statement of teaching philosophy (not to exceed one page), undergraduate student evaluations and three letters of recommendation.  The application deadline is  March 15, 2024.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.  Position funding is subject to budget availability.
