Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of English at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor for Academic Year 2024-2025. Applicants should hold an earned Master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment and should have a minimum of three years of college teaching experience. Applicants should have expertise in composition theory and practice and additional expertise in one or more of the following areas: developmental composition, dual credit writing, academic preparedness, literacy, or critical reading. A Ph.D. is preferred. The position begins August 2024.
The position serves general education courses in the English department, particularly co-requisite and first-year composition.
The successful candidate will teach a 5/5 annual teaching load.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Earned Master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment.

Experience:

• Three years of college teaching experience
• Expertise in composition theory and practice and one or more of the following position: dual credit writing, academic preparedness, literacy, or critical reading.
• Knowledge of current practices in professional communication and social media
• Effective interpersonal communication skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Analytic and problems solving skills
• Active and effective listening skills
• Ability to collaborate with peers and students
• Ability to understand and adapt to current trends in professional communication
• Evidence of good character, mature attitude, and professional integrity

Licensure & Certifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

A Ph.D. is preferred.

Job Duties:

  • Maintain a 5/5 teaching load, teaching courses as assigned at the times and in the locations necessary to meet the needs of EKU students
  • Utilize effective teaching methods, innovative teaching techniques, and teaching modalities, and multiple evaluation and assessment procedures as a means to help meet the needs of EKU students
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach, develop, and implement courses related to one’s curricular area
  • Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work effectively with colleagues to support the mission of EKU, its academic units, and its campus community
  • Demonstrate respect for and support EKU’s diverse campus community and student population
