Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Teaching, Learning, and Educational Leadership at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Special Education/Deaf and Hard of Hearing for Academic Year 2024-2025. Applicants should hold an earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Special Education with a specialization in Deaf and Hard of Hearing from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment. The position begins August 2024.
The position serves students in the B.S. Elementary, Middle, M.A.T., and MAED programs. It requires certification in Special Education with expertise in Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The successful candidate will teach Deaf and Hard of Hearing classes online and in person.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Special Education/Deaf and Hard of Hearing from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. ABD applicants may be considered but must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. (verified by official transcripts) at the time of appointment.

Experience:

• A minimum of three (3) years experience in Special Education/Deaf and Hard of Hearing
• Knowledge of current practices in professional communication and social media
• Effective interpersonal communication skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Analytic and problems solving skills
• Active and effective listening skills
• Ability to collaborate with peers and students
• Ability to understand and adapt to current trends in professional communication
• Evidence of good character, mature attitude, and professional integrity

Licensure & Certifications: Certification in Special Education with concentration in Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Job Duties:

  • 90% - Maintain a 5/5 teaching load, teaching courses as assigned at the times and in the locations necessary to meet the needs of EKU students and lead clinical observations. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Other duties as assigned throughout the school terms - (Essential)
