Job Overview

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor/Teaching Postdoctoral Fellow (TPF). The TPF will conduct research in association with faculty research groups in areas of theoretical/computational. Half of the TPF time will be devoted to teaching and developing undergraduate chemistry classes, directing laboratory classes and mentoring undergraduate students, and half to conducting research. This position is well-suited for scientists who wish to prepare for a career of teaching at a primarily undergraduate institution that emphasizes excellence in both teaching and research. Preference will be given to candidates who have prior teaching experience in first-year chemistry and/or associated lab courses.

 

An ideal candidate would have a PhD in computational chemistry/biophysics or a related discipline. We expect a solid chemical and/or biophysical background, a good grasp of statistics, and data analysis techniques. In addition, experience with machine learning approaches will be beneficial. Experience with programming and scripting languages (Python, shell scripting), familiarity with various molecular modeling packages (NAMD, Gromacs, CHARMM, OpenMM etc.) and with the UNIX/Linux operating system will be a significant advantage.


Minimum Requirements
  • PhD required or all requirements for the PhD must be completed by the appointment date.
  • The University of Cincinnati teaching fellows participate extensively in the intellectual life of the department including opportunities to attend seminars and workshops, and present research results.
  • Salary is competitive.
  • Highly effective communication skills, including listening, writing, and speaking are desired.
