Position Description:

The University of Iowa’s Department of Rhetoric invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position for the academic year 2024-2025, beginning August 2024. There is a possibility of 1-year renewals of this position for a maximum of 3 years. The teaching load is three sections of General Education Rhetoric, the department’s foundational course in the General Education Curriculum, in the fall and spring.


Start Date: August 21, 2024

Education Requirement:

  • Masters degree in Communication Studies, English, English Education, Rhetoric, or in a related field in hand by the start date.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching introductory college writing and speaking courses.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree (PhD, MFA)  in Communication Studies, English, English Education, Rhetoric, or in a related field in hand by the start date.

  • Experience teaching or tutoring in a Writing Center.
