The University System of Georgia (USG) is comprised of 26 higher education institutions as well as the University System Office (USO). Within the USO, our administrative operations are primarily housed in the Trinity Washington Building located in downtown Atlanta. Our Information Technology Services (ITS) division is located in Athens. The University System of Georgia Shared Services Center (SSC) is located in Sandersville. The Georgia Public Library System is located in Atlanta. The Georgia Archives is located in Morrow. The State of Georgia Records Center is located in Austell.

A Virtual Information Security Officer (VISO), Associate is an entry level position responsible for managed services that assist, guide and support one or more USG institution cybersecurity programs, and require an investment of time onsite and institution visits. The objective of this position is to identify and reduce enterprise cybersecurity risk by continuously maturing the institution cybersecurity program and aligning it to USG policies, procedures and standards. Typically supervised by a lead VISO, the associate shall advocate for and assist the lead by representing the institution within the USG Cybersecurity program.

The VISO, Associate also assists with routine monitoring of systems, products or services for anomalous activity, unauthorized intrusion, identification and the day-to-day management of cybersecurity vulnerabilities and threats. An associate implements and utilizes tools is support of managed services such as awareness training, operations and incident response, vulnerability management and forensics, governance and review, and/or infrastructure support.

1. Assists with day-to-day cybersecurity operations; assists in the implementation of regular security-related business processes; assists in the maintenance of IT security systems and tools.
2. Assists in maintaining a secure electronic data system for the University System of Georgia.
3. Assists in preparing a variety of regular and special reports in support of the enterprise managed services.
4. Assists with systems management duties concerning the managed services provided.
5. Provides data and support for a variety of IT operations.
6. Participation in System-wide cybersecurity activities, to include assisting with planning and executing annual cybersecurity meetings.
7. Other duties, as assigned.
 

Educational Requirements
An associate or associate in applied science degree in computer science, programming, engineering or a related field.
Other Required Qualifications
Acquire and maintain a CompTIA Security+, or equivalent professional certification as detailed in the training and development plan.
Required Experience
Over one year of related experience.

ABILITIES
Ability to work independently, as required.
KNOWLEDGE
1. Familiarity with the University System of Georgia policies and procedures.
2. Familiarity with IT systems cybersecurity principles and practices.
3. Familiarity with installation, maintenance and repair of computer hardware and software.
4. Familiarity with a wide variety of software systems.
SKILLS
Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents having competing priorities.
