Position Overview
The Videographer/Photographer provides media production services and photographic services for a diverse clientele, responsible for conceptualizing, developing, producing, shooting and editing a variety of video and photo projects to create clear and effective electronic media communications and still photography to a variety of audiences. The incumbent serves as production staff for projects, assisting in all aspects of production and post-production work, including logging, offline editing, and managing a library, as well as lighting, shooting, live streaming, producing, writing, conducting on camera interviews, directing, encoding, and design for web media. The position provides a variety of photographic functions such as photographic shooting work that includes portraits, photojournalism, and on-location set-ups using digital photographic equipment. The incumbent will transport, set up, and operate equipment, assist with location scouting, staging, lighting, as well as set preparation and design.
This position requires a flexible schedule to cover events including nights and weekends with the additional potential for multi day travel for project work.

The Videographer/ Photographer provides media production services and photographic services for a diverse clientele, responsible for conceptualizing, developing, producing, shooting and editing a variety of video and photo projects to create clear and effective electronic media communications and still photography to a variety of audiences.

Position Responsibilities


Key Accountability On assignment, produces high quality electronic media projects that achieve client objectives by:
Job Duties
  • Conceptualizing, scripting, pre-producing, scheduling and planning photo and video projects.
  • Developing creative program treatment, storyline, motion graphics, video and audio content
  • Editing program material by operating software editing systems for video and audio footage, graphics, animation, image processing and sound design.
  • Conducting interviews on and off camera.
  • Shooting in a variety of situations, according to instructions of client or art director, in studio and on location.
  • Digitally logging transcribing and archiving footage for entry into the database by following specific detailed guidelines and instructions.
  • Maintaining databases including ongoing and completed projects, media libraries, equipment inventory, etc.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

  • Maintaining professional and courteous attitude while handling multiple assignments, working varied hours, working under deadline pressures and accurately executing detailed requests in coordination with the Digital Media Producer;
  • Practicing good time management and time tracking to accurately report on work completed;
  • Working and communicating effectively with other employees, content specialists and coworkers to coordinate schedules, facilities and equipment to meet client needs;
  • Providing clients with copies of completed projects in various requested formats
Key Accountability Contributes to a team by:
Job Duties
  • Working closely with Creative Services, University Communications & Marketing, and external marketing/advertising/production firms to guarantee all content created follows University of Idaho brand guidelines.
  • Attend meetings, workshops and trainings.
  • Ensuring professional development, maintaining technical knowledge and enhances skills by attending appropriate training courses and seminars.
  • Reviewing and implementing current industry trends and using self-taught tutorials.
  • Performing other duties as assigned within the scope of this position.

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
  • Video program production – from concept development through acquisition, editing and program distribution via the web and other means.
  • Storytelling through photography and digital media avenues.
  • Using advanced functionality of image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop processes, webpage software, HTML and Digital Asset Management software.
Required Education
  • Two years of college level training in professional video and audio production (writing, shooting, editing video programs) and digital photography, its processes and tech in both Macintosh and Windows within a network environment.
Required Licensures, Certifications or other
  • Possess valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass van driver safety course and drive UI vehicles.
Additional Preferred
  • This position requires a flexible schedule to cover events including nights and weekends.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, and/or otherwise move video production equipment weighing 50 pounds over various terrain and conditions.
  • Setting up and transporting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Standing for extended periods during photo shoots, which can be approximately 4 – 6 hours in duration.
Working Conditions
  • Must be willing to work a varied flexible schedule including early mornings, nights and weekends related to event based work.
  • Ability to travel.
