The Vice Provost and Dean is responsible for campus-wide leadership in sustaining and improving the quality of undergraduate academic programs at the University and ensuring that students have the best opportunity for success.  Primary functions include strategic planning, budget development, enrollment management, and supervision of, and collaboration with, offices, departments, programs, and divisions that support student achievement and excellence in undergraduate education. The Vice Provost & Dean is responsible for the general education curriculum; provides leadership and support for university-wide curriculum planning and development; and fulfills all duties of Dean for departments, faculty, and programs housed within the Undergraduate Education unit.   The Vice Provost & Dean regularly advises the Provost regarding issues central to the undergraduate mission of the university. Central to the mission of this position is student success in all forms, but especially those related to academics.   Such efforts include, but are not limited to, recruitment and retention of undergraduates, resolution of student concerns related to academics, and generalized student support.  It is expected that the Vice Provost & Dean will collaborate across the entire institution in actualizing these objectives.

The Vice Provost & Dean is responsible for handling and facilitating support and guidance for new curriculum development proposals; reviewing and finalizing new degree and program proposals; and liaising with the Office of the Chancellor for all academic program activities. The Vice Provost & Dean is responsible for assuring alignment of all academic programs and policies with Board of Governors policies, Office of the Chancellor procedures/standards, PDE requirements, and any other organization whose policies impact the integrated university.  In addition to oversight of continuing and new programs and academic policies, the Vice Provost & Dean is responsible for ensuring that partnerships, affiliations, articulations and collaborations with other educational organizations, agencies, and institutions employ functional practices to support student learning experiences in the most efficient and effective manner. For current, new, and collaborative programs, the Vice Provost & Dean is responsible for reviewing related resources and budgetary needs to support program development and viability. The Vice Provost & Dean is responsible for monitoring program evolution and reporting the status to the Academic Affairs Leadership Council (AALC) and the Enrollment Management Council (EMC), as deemed appropriate. The Vice Provost & Dean works collaboratively with the Provost’s leadership team (i.e., AALC) in the execution of the strategic plan for Academic Affairs.  This key strategic position is responsible for leading and building a reliable and accurate communication structure to support the key role of the Division of Academic Affairs in pursuit of the university mission and vision.

In addition, in oversight of the Honors College, the Vice Provost & Dean provides institutional leadership in supporting the mission of the Honors College by cultivating a diverse, dynamic community of excellent scholars and ethical leaders who understand their roles as global citizens and fostering excellence in teaching and programming within the Honors College.
The Vice Provost & Dean will contribute to the development, management, and assessment of a program committed to being distinguished among PASSHE and mid-Atlantic schools for its diverse student body, interdisciplinary curriculum, rigorous academic requirements, a commitment to provide a low-cost international experience for each student, and the ability to graduate students in four years with long-term connections and broad perspectives.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Vice Provost & Dean is responsible for securing public and private support for the college; actively participating in the university’s fund-raising initiatives; serving as the primary spokesperson for the college in its relations with diverse constituencies internal and external to campus; advocating for and serving as a mentor to University Honors students; supporting faculty/undergraduate student research cooperation; and supporting inter/multi-disciplinary approaches to research and teaching.
