General Information
James Madison University is accepting applications for the Vice President for Enrollment Management. The Vice President reports to the President and serves as a member of the division heads team (with other senior leaders) as well as the President’s Cabinet. The Division of Enrollment Management includes:
  • The Office of Admissions
  • The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships
  • University Events
  • First Generation Student Success (Centennial Scholars Program, Reddix Center for First Generation Students, Valley Scholars)
  • Access & Educational Outreach (Middle School Visit Program, Preparing Future Faculty, Professors-in-Residence).

The Division of Enrollment Management is an integral part of the campus community and works collaboratively with the other divisions to support the university’s mission, vision, and values.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Vice President of Enrollment Management is an essential leadership position responsible for providing leadership, strategic oversight, and guidance to multiple key departments that significantly impact the university’s growth, diversity, and student experience. The Vice President will provide strategic direction, innovative leadership, and effective management for the respective departments. The Division of Enrollment Management includes 100 staff members with five direct reports to the Vice President.
Among a wide range of responsibilities, the Vice President’s duties encompass the following:
  • Provides strategic leadership and mentorship to a diverse group of employees within the division. Fosters a collaborative and innovative culture across departments, encouraging teamwork and effective communication.
  • Oversees staff recruitment, development, and retention.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management/Director of Admissions to develop and implement recruitment strategies that align with the university’s mission and support the recruitment and retention of students.
  • Oversees the assessment of admission processes, utilizing data-driven insights for the continuous enhancement of recruitment efforts and achievement of enrollment targets.
  • Works closely with the Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management/Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships to establish financial aid policies that align with university goals and compliance standards.
  • Provides leadership in identifying and securing financial aid and scholarship funding opportunities, collaborating with the Development Office. Stays informed of financial aid trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and maximize available resources
  • Coordinates the enrollment activities to promote a quality environment that fosters a successful transition to college through graduation.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Director of First Generation Student Success to develop and implement initiatives supporting the academic success of first-generation students.
  • Leads efforts to assess the effectiveness of first-generation programs, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborates with the Director of University Events, providing strategic direction for the planning and execution of major university events (including university commencements). Collaborate with various departments to ensure events align with the university’s mission, enhance the student experience, and contribute to a positive campus culture.
  • Supports the core qualities of the institution, specifically in promoting and sustaining efforts for a welcoming and inclusive community.
  • Oversees the fiscal management of the division to ensure wise stewardship of resources.
  • Collaborates with the Provost, the Vice President of Student Affairs, and other university leaders to provide and enhance the academic and co-curricular support available to all students.
  • Prepares and presents reports and other necessary correspondence to the President, Board of Visitors, and other committees when needed.
Qualifications
  • History of innovative leadership in a higher education setting; candidates should possess a minimum of five years’ experience as an associate/assistant vice president, dean, director, or other significant leadership position.
  • Proven leadership experience in enrollment management, admissions, or a related field within the higher education environment.
  • Knowledge of student retention and success strategies.
  • Understanding of the regulatory environment impacting higher education, specifically student recruitment and retention.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external partners.
  • A record of commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.
  • Strong commitment to holistic education and student development.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, data analysis, and utilization of technology to enhance departmental operations.
  • Exceptional budgetary and financial management skills.
  • Master’s degree required; doctorate preferred.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
