The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) is the largest academic unit at Rutgers University and the center of the undergraduate experience on the Rutgers–New Brunswick campus and is comprised of 41 academic departments spanning the liberal arts.
SAS offers more than 100 majors and minors across the life sciences, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and mathematical and physical sciences with research centers and institutes across the school. With a diverse student body of more than 20,000 students, SAS has a membership of over 1,700 faculty members, more than 500 administrative staff, and 200,000 living alumni.

Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Vice Dean for Administration for the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS). This position will create and implement a strategic approach to advancing the operations of the largest and most complex school at Rutgers.
With an annual budget of approximately $450 million, SAS has slightly more than 1,000 full-time tenured, tenure-track, and NTT faculty members and 500 staff employees and supports the education of over 20,000 undergraduate and 2,000 graduate students in our degree programs, as well as providing courses for nearly all undergraduates across Rutgers – New Brunswick Schools. As chief administrative and financial officer, the VDA oversees six direct reports and five dotted line reports and has general oversight and accountability for the work of an additional 150 administrative staff in academic departments whose major role is the performance of business functions. They are a significant partner to the Executive Dean for designing and implementing strategic advancement of the functions that allow us to achieve our missions of research, education, and outreach/engagement in a consistent manner across SAS
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Oversees the administrative services for SAS, including finance, human resources, and facilities (including accounting, finance and budget, the administration of policies, personnel issues and programs, space and facilities planning, physical plant construction and renovations, central data analysis and decision support, purchasing, academic support, and departmental administration).
  • Partners with senior leaders to articulate and advance a vision for the school’s financial and administrative strategy.
  • Assess and improve the school’s financial reporting structures, practices, and procedures.
  • Promotes a greater sense of community among staff.
  • Supports an environment rooted in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in financial operations and analysis, experience managing human resources process and practices.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.

  • Demonstrated responsible higher education experience, expertise, and successful outcomes leading financial strategy, budget, and administrative teams across a complex organizational structure.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A graduate degree in finance, business administration, or related area.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is also strongly preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Regular travel using personal vehicle to all RU-NB campuses.
  • Travel to other RU campuses and occasional domestic and international travel.
