DUTIES:

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine and Tampa General Hospital is accepting applications for an ABR board certified medical physicist at the Associate or Professor level to serve as Vice Chair and Chief, Division of Medical Physics. The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in advancing our academic and clinical missions, contributing to scholarly activities, and overseeing complex clinical operations within a rapidly growing state-wide academic enterprise.

The department values innovation, collaboration, and a dedication to improving the lives of our patients and continues to excel in its tripartite mission supporting exceptional clinical care, research and education. Clinical services are provided at the Tampa General Hospital and three clinical locations within the Tampa region. Several other locations are currently under development across the state including the first proton center in the Tampa region expected to be operational by late 2025.

The department, which currently treats over 1000 patients annually, is experiencing rapid year over year growth. Technology offerings include: TrueBeam, Halcyon, CyberKnife S7, Bravos HDR, big bore CT with 4D capabilities, SGRT and motion management capabilities. In alignment with our commitment to remain at the forefront of advancements, the department anticipates continued and significant institutional investment in novel radiotherapy technologies. The Vice Chair/Chief will play a pivotal role in guiding this strategic initiative, actively contributing to the planning and implementation of cutting-edge technologies. This includes directing resources towards the acquisition and integration of innovative radiotherapy equipment, fostering collaborative research initiatives, and ensuring that our clinical operations remain at the forefront of technological advancements. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the future of radiation oncology within our institution, contributing to advancements that enhance patient outcomes and solidify our position as a leader in the field. 

Additionally, the successful candidate will: provide visionary leadership as Vice Chair of the department, actively contributing to strategic planning and decision-making with institutional senior leaders; demonstrate scholarly and academic impact through research, publications, and participation in national and international scientific communities; mentor and support the academic growth of junior faculty, residents, and medical physics staff; oversee and manage complex clinical operations within the Division of Medical Physics, ensuring high-quality patient care and safety; collaborate with departmental leadership to align the Division of Medical Physics with the overall goals and objectives of the department, Cancer Institute and institution. For qualified candidates, leadership opportunities which support the clinical, research and educational missions of the TGH Cancer Institute will be available.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Medical Physics
  • Board certification in Medical Physics
  • Significant experience in academic and clinical settings.
  • Demonstrated scholarly impact through research, publications, and presentations.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with a track record of successful program development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor.
