Duke Department of Family Medicine and Community Health VICE CHAIR FOR EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION
The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health in the Duke University School of Medicine is a diverse, robust, interdisciplinary academic department with programs focused on education and training, patient care and community health, consultations and collaborations, and research and scholarship. The Department is composed of five interdependent divisions — Community Health, Family Medicine, Occupational and Environmental Medicine, PA Program, and Student Health — with a shared mission to partner with communities to improve health outcomes. The Duke Department of Family Medicine and Community Health seeks a Vice Chair for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) to continue to build, advance, and elevate the strategic vision of the Department toward our goal of inclusive excellence. The Vice Chair will address EDI topics embedded within learning and curriculum, research, Departmental culture, and recruitment and retention of faculty, staff, and students. Additionally, the Vice Chair will incorporate the School of Medicine’s focus on anti-racism into an EDI strategic plan for the Department. The Vice Chair will serve as a key advisor and partner to the Chair, other Vice Chairs, and the Department leadership team. The Vice Chair will work in concert with the Staff Director of EDI (to be appointed via a search led by the Vice Chair), and both with be supported by an administrative coordinator. The time commitment to this Vice Chair role is negotiable and is expected to be a minimum of 25% of full-time effort, with 75% of effort being some combination of clinical, teaching, other funded service, research, or other contract(s). Applicants must be eligible for regular-rank faculty appointment (MD or equivalent, Ph.D., MD/Ph.D., or master’s degree). The preferred candidate will have the ability to cover up to 75% in a clinical setting within Family Medicine Clinic or Employee Health and Wellness Clinics; or the candidate will have the ability to cover up to 75% with acquired research funding in the fields of public health, health disparities, family medicine, health services, or health equity.
