Position Description:

Vice Chair, Ambulatory and Community Affiliated Practices

The Vice Chair of Community Affiliated and Ambulatory Practices will oversee all clinical anesthesia services throughout MCW Anesthesiology’s community divisions, as well as pain management services across all practice sites.  Community anesthesia services includes all ambulatory surgery centers and community-based acute care hospitals.  The Vice Chair will ensure the delivery of consistently high-quality anesthesia and pain management care to patients, and will achieve results through the appointed division director at each ambulatory and community site.  Primary responsibilities include playing an integral role in maximizing the clinical potential of the community sites across the Froedtert and The Medical College of Wisconsin (F&MCW) enterprise. The successful candidate will oversee the clinical affairs of ambulatory and community anesthesia practices at each site, utilize data to optimize utilization and clinical staffing of faculty and advanced practice provider (APP) anesthetists, engender physician and APP retention and patient loyalty, and guide performance improvement through the review of results of existing QA processes.

 Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the clinical affairs of the ambulatory and community division in partnership with the division directors at each site.
  • Anticipates and facilitate practice growth.
  • Works with the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology to recruit physicians and APPs to MCW who have an interest in ambulatory or community practice.
  • Develop models of care that promote quality of care and stewardship of resources.
  • Develop, with the Medical Directors at each site, clinical guidelines, pathways, and protocols for use across all community sites.
  • Work with the Medical Directors at each site to ensure that the standard of care delivered is exceptional and consistent with that delivered at Froedtert Hospital and provide strategic planning and leadership within the Community Division
    • Participate in negotiation for and construction of contracts for Anesthesia Services
    • Participate in Discussions regarding faculty and APP compensation at the affiliated community practices
    • Participate in budgeting for the entire division.
  • Advise, assist and, support the Department Leadership Committee to ensure organizational priorities and governance concerns are addressed in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Represent the anesthesia community division at all meetings in the division.
  • Work with Division Directors to maintain and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements at each community site.
  • Work collaboratively with the Medical College Physicians leadership and the Joint Practice Oversight Committee teams.
  • Supports departmental and division clinical performance improvement and quality processes.
  • Complete other duties as delegated by the Chair.

Medical College of Wisconsin

Medical College Physicians (MCP)

Medical College Physicians (MCP), Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin’s adult specialty care group, is an integral component of the Medical College of Wisconsin’s partnership with Froedtert Health and essential to Froedtert & MCW’s successes and achievements in adult clinical care. MCP physicians and advanced practice providers practice at Froedtert Hospital, Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital, Froedtert West Bend Hospital, at other hospitals in the Milwaukee metropolitan area, and at various community locations. Over 1,000 physicians and 400 advanced practice providers provide care to patients system wide.

Many MCP physicians and APPs also dedicate a percentage of their time to research or education. Their work within the academic and research areas of Medical College of Wisconsin continually drive innovation and generate new knowledge for the next generation of medical leaders.

Community Physicians (CP)

Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Community Physicians is a primary care and multispecialty group with more than 300 physicians and nearly 170 advanced practice providers, delivering care in 35 health centers and clinics in southeastern Wisconsin. In fiscal 2019, combined patient visits to these locations totaled more than 900,000.

Froedtert Hospital

Froedtert Hospital is the primary adult hospital affiliate of MCW and is staffed by MCP physicians providing care in all medical specialties and subspecialties. Froedtert and MCW are at the forefront of innovative technology and care in many areas, including cancer, heart and vascular diseases, brain injury and disorders, spinal cord injury, transplant, communication disorders, digestive diseases, diabetes, orthopedics, urology and women’s health. A 735-bed hospital, Froedtert, has the only adult Level 1 Trauma Center in eastern Wisconsin. All physicians practicing at Froedtert Hospital are MCW faculty members and share the college academic mission. Froedtert and The Medical College of Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center is a state-of-the art comprehensive cancer center that brings together everything cancer patients need including, world-class cancer specialists, innovative cancer therapies, advanced treatment technology and the full range of support services to patients and their families. Position Requirements:

  • A master’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, or evidence of continuing professional development activities related to medical management is desired.
  • Wisconsin licensure (or eligible for)
  • MCW appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (or eligible for)
