Job Summary

 

The Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital is looking for enthusiastic credentialed veterinary technicians! We are currently hiring for our Versa team. As a Versa Technician, you will have the opportunity to work with all of Purdue’s specialty departments in both the small animal and large animal hospitals including Anesthesia and Surgery, Primary Care, Emergency/Critical Care, Large Animal Treatment, and Small Animal Internal Medicine. Versa Technicians are assigned to the area in the hospital of greatest technician need and through this opportunity will utilize all of their skills as knowledge. In addition, Versa technicians rotate through the Priority 4 Paws mobile surgery unit providing anesthesia and recovery support for spays and neuters to shelter animals in the surrounding area.

Purdue University, located in West Lafayette, Indiana, is a beautiful campus that supports both a College of Veterinary Medicine as well as Associate and Bachelor degree programs in Veterinary Nursing. All veterinary technicians in the teaching hospital teach and mentor students throughout the year. The Versa Technician team generally works M-F but may rotate to weekends depending on hospital needs. After-hours and on-call may be required as needed and will be discussed in advance. Pay starts at $19/hour for Associate’s degree and no experience, and $21/hour for Bachelor’s degree and no experience. Candidates with previous RVT experience and/or additional certifications may be eligible for a higher starting rate. New PVH employees are also eligible for a sign on bonus. Senior Position Summary:

 

The Senior (S3) Veterinary Technician will provide technical assistance to clinicians, interns, residents, students, and other veterinary technicians in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. They are required to facilitate various clinical services while providing quality patient care. Additionally, these individuals will provide basic clinical instruction to veterinary and veterinary nursing students. Veterinary Technicians will monitor hospital inventory and supplies and order when necessary. Assignment to other areas of the hospital in need may be required, as well as holiday rotation and possible participation in on-call coverage.

Required:

 

  • Education: AAS in Veterinary Technology from AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology Program
  • Experience: None. Experience in a veterinary hospital preferred


Lead Position Summary:

 

Lead (S4) Veterinary Technicians provide technical assistance to clinicians, interns, residents, students, and other veterinary technicians in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. They are required to provide various types of clinical services while providing quality patient care. These individuals will be asked to provide demonstration and assistance of both basic and advanced medical procedures to veterinary and veterinary technician students as well as provide information on physiology and disease processes to students and S3 veterinary technicians. Veterinary Technicians will monitor hospital inventory and supplies and order when necessary. Assignment to other areas of the hospital in need may be required, as well as holiday rotation and possible participation in on-call coverage. Those in this role are expected to provide medical leadership on the hospital floor through employee flow management, high level patient care, and emergency situation decision making. 


Required:

 

  • Education: AAS in Veterinary Technology from AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology Program
  • Experience: 4 years in a University Veterinary Teaching Hospital or Veterinary Specialty Hospital as a credentialed veterinary technician or 10 years in a veterinary General Practice

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

 

  • Must become RVT in Indiana within 12 months of hire. 
  • Able to listen to and follow both verbal and written directions. 
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills with the ability to read and write in English. 
  • Must possess knowledge level enough to explain and demonstrate both routine and advanced veterinary medical concepts and procedures. 
  • Aid in instruction of both S3 Veterinary Technicians, interns, residents, veterinary students, and veterinary technician students. 
  • Must complete Purdue Veterinary Technician Basic Skills List prior to promotion to S4.
