Job Summary

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital is hiring talented veterinary technicians for our Anesthesia team. In this position, technicians have the opportunity to provide anesthesia support for both small and large animal patients for elective and emergency cases throughout the hospital. With access to three DACVAA and supporting multiple specialties in both large and small animal, anesthesia technicians have great opportunity to learn and advance their skills and knowledge including arterial catheter placement and IBP monitoring, central catheter placement, and regional anesthesia. Purdue University also boasts one of the top Veterinary Technology programs in the country and offers all employed technicians in-the-moment teaching opportunities with both veterinary and veterinary technology students. All technicians in the hospital are encouraged to work independently and utilize critical thinking skills to contribute to patient care. Technicians are also supported in working towards their VTS and are mentored through the process.

 

The Veterinary Hospital at Purdue University values credentialed technicians for the skill and knowledge they bring to the hospital, students, and patients. A weekday schedule and rotating on-call ensures plenty of time to enjoy the community and all that Purdue has to offer. Pay starts at $19/hour for Associate’s degree and no experience, and $21/hour for Bachelor’s degree and no experience. Candidates with previous RVT experience and/or additional certifications may be eligible for a higher starting rate. This posting may be filled at multiple levels (S3 or S4). The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.
 

S3 requirements:

  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program

 

S4 requirements:

  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program
  • Two years of experience as a credentialed veterinary technician

Required:
  • Candidates must be registered in Indiana within twelve (12) months
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
  • Good oral/written communication skills; ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in a veterinary hospital environment
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally

 

Preferred:

  • Teaching and computer experience
  • Experience in a veterinary practice or veterinary teaching hospital
  • Emergency or critical care experience
  • Experience in emergency, multispecialty veterinary hospital or veterinary teaching hospital
  • Experience in general practice
  • Experience with large animals

 

Additional Information:

  • Shifts weekday (day) with overnight/holiday/weekend on-call responsibilities rotated throughout the team
