Veterinary Technician/Nurse (Neurology)

Job Summary

 

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic credentialed veterinary technician to work with our Neurology team! Credentialed veterinary technicians working in Neurology provide support to the service through communication with clients, providing comprehensive patient care, and coordinating and communicating patient needs across services. Neurology technicians perform diagnostic sample collection, assist with CSF taps, occasionally perform and monitor anesthesia, assist in neurological surgeries such as hemilaminectomy or craniotomy, and perform or assist with electrodiagnostic studies such as BAER testing. The team also assists with clinical research projects that provide valuable information to improve our understanding and care of patients with neurological diseases.

 

Applicants for this position do not need previous Neurology experience or knowledge, as the veterinary technicians at Purdue have the opportunity to continually learn new knowledge, skills, and techniques. Neurology technicians work closely with veterinary and veterinary nursing students, providing education through clinical experience. The ideal candidate has a good base knowledge as well as having a great attitude, desire to learn, and work as a team.
The Purdue Veterinary Hospital values credentialed veterinary technicians for the skill and knowledge they bring to the hospital, students, and patients. Purdue University, located in West Lafayette, Indiana, is a beautiful campus that supports both a College of Veterinary Medicine as well as an Associate and Bachelor degree program in Veterinary Nursing. Pay starts at $19/hour for Associate’s degree, and $21/hour for Bachelor’s degree. Candidates with previous RVT experience and/or additional certifications may be eligible for a higher starting rate. Requirements:

 

  • Graduate of AVMA accredited veterinary technology program
  • Must be RVT in Indiana within 12 months of starting employment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willing to teach clinical skills and concepts to students
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally

 

Preferred:

 

  • Experience working in a veterinary teaching hospital or specialty veterinary hospital
  • Experience working in Neurology
