The Veterinary Technician III in General Surgery is responsible for the treatment of animals admitted to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital and will provide instruction and oversight for students, student workers, veterinary technicians, and technician assistants. This technician will also provide support to faculty, staff and students performing veterinary medical care and ensure a clean, sanitary, and functionally well-organized service area is maintained within the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.

Shift differential pay is available for eligible shifts. There is opportunity for career ladder advancement as well as opportunity for licensed veterinary technicians to work towards specialty certification. The Blinn Veterinary Technology Program is housed in the same building as the VMTH.  There are flexible work schedules for evening, overnight and weekend shifts in some service areas of the VMTH.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include: Associate degree in Veterinary Technology, Biomedical Science, Animal Science or a related area, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Preferred understanding of equipment used in a veterinary teaching hospital. Four years’ technical experience in veterinary medicine, anesthesia, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science or a related area, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Four years’ experience in Small Animal Anesthesia and Small Animal Surgical Procedures. Two years’ experience within the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.

Salary Range: $21.33 - $23.46

Work Schedule: Candidates must have the ability to work alternative shifts, holidays, weekends, and on-call duty.

Other Requirements and Factors: Must have the ability to work around animals, hay, or dust. Ability to move heavy loads.

Essential Personnel: This position is considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc., and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless or until relieved by their direct supervisor.
