The Veterinary Technician II under general supervision is primarily responsible for supporting the Educational Memorial Program by assisting in donation pick-ups and helping process all donated specimens. The Technician will also help support laboratory procedures, assisting in surgical embalming procedures, inventory management, storage and organization solutions, and teaching model assembly and care. The selected candidate will subscribe to and support our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability as stated above. Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Position Details: May require working alternate shifts, holidays, weekends, or 'on-call duty. Must be able to lift or move heavy objects.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science or a related area, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

  • Two years technical experience in veterinary medicine

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

  • Basic computer skills


Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or related field

  • One year experience in scientific research, clinical operational or experience work


Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • Quantitative Fit Testing - EHS (Respirator Certification). Licensed Veterinary Technician Registered Veterinary Technician


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office)

  • Animal handling skills

  • Organizational and problem solving skills

  • Computer skills (Adobe Photoshop/Creative Suite)

  • Mechanical skills. (Power tools such as drills and saws)


Responsibilities:

  • Assist in Educational Memorial Program - Completes donation pick-ups from vet clinics both in and out of town. Assists with paperwork and logistical planning when needed. Assists in embalming or processing of donated specimen.

  • Maintenance and Assistance in VIBS Courses - Assists instructors, faculty, staff, and students in VIBS courses as instructed by supervisor or director. Teaches model assembly and care. Maintains, organizes and cleans all lab areas.

  • Medical Procedures - Assists in surgical embalming procedures including animal restraint, administration of intravenous or intramuscular medications, anesthetic patient monitoring, and placement of intravenous and intra-arterial catheters and cadaver processing.

  • Ordering and Record Keeping - Coordinates  ordering and purchasing duties of general laboratory and other supplies when needed. Assists in Maintains accurate records on student, faculty, and laboratory specimens in all laboratory areas when needed.

  • Safety - Uses and enforces all safety regulations including proper disposal of all laboratory waste to ensure the lab complies at all time with University lab, and other regulations.

  • Chemical Preparation - Collects and prepares chemical solutions including embalming solution, wet specimen solution, and other solutions used in the laboratory.

  • Inventory - Maintains accurate electronic supply inventories and records for all surgical, specialized, and maintenance supplies housed within the laboratory areas. Performs other duties as assigned.
