Summary of Duties:
The Veterinary Technician 2 provides veterinary technical support and assist during examination, diagnostic procedures, induction, anesthesia, surgery and recovery of typical species of small animals through Washington State University (WSU) College of Veterinary Medicine’s partnership with the Seattle Humane Society (SHS). This position works on-site at the Seattle Human Society located in Bellevue, Washington.

As a Veterinary Technician you will provide guidance and instruction to Washington State University fourth year Doctorial of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students as they work on surgery and community-based medicine cases during their time at SHS. You will work with WSU faculty and SHS clinicians and technicians to further the goals of WSU's professional degree teaching program while providing quality animal care. While based in Bellevue, Washington, this position is associated with the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) and Veterinary Teaching Hospital, the largest department within the College of Veterinary Medicine. In the hospital environment, DVM students are introduced to the practical aspects of the clinical disciplines. In addition to the spending time in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, DVM fourth year students participate in clinical rotations at clinics and humane societies across the Pacific Northwest, including Seattle Humane Society. In this role you will contribute to the college’s, department’s, and Seattle Humane’ s commitment to excellence in diagnosis, treatment, and management of clinical problems.

There is an opportunity for a flexible four to five day work schedule, which can be discussed in more detail with interested candidates.

Required Qualifications:

  • An Associate Degree from an accredited school of animal technology, or registration, certification or licensure in an animal or veterinary technician field and one year full-time experience as a Veterinary Specialist 1; OR equivalent education/experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • An Associate Degree from an accredited school of animal technology; or registration, certification or licensure in an animal or veterinary technician field and one year experience with the care and treatment of animals in a veterinary practice; or equivalent education/experience. 

  • Applicant must meet the required criteria (WAC 246-935-060 ) to be eligible to sit for the Washington State veterinary technician exam and must pass the exam the first time it is available.  Must pass WSU radiation safety training exam first time it is available.  


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a small animal veterinary setting preferred.
