Job Description

---
The Oklahoma Comparative Medicine Training Program is seeking candidates for a Veterinary Residency position approved by the Board of Directors of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine. Individuals who successfully complete this training program will meet the eligibility requirements to sit for the ACLAM board certifying exam.

The training program has three primary goals:

  • To produce knowledgeable and skilled laboratory animal veterinarians prepared for productive careers with research and clinical responsibilities in animal care and use programs within academic, government, or private sectors.

  • To provide experience to veterinarians in the humane care and responsible use of laboratory animals in biomedical research and education.  This is accomplished through didactic training in formal coursework and seminars.  Practical, hands-on experience in laboratory animal medicine is garnered under the direct supervision of competent and accomplished laboratory animal specialists and the diverse biomedical research faculty across two major research institutions (OUHSC & OSU) within the state of Oklahoma.

  • Provide applied, mentored research experiences in order to encourage a familiarity-based understanding and support of biomedical investigations.  This research experience prepares veterinarians to become active participants in collaborative research.  Collaboration with research projects and programs permit the residents to participate in the development and maintenance of animal models in support of translational research activities.

Residents shall complete the standard training program in three (3) years.  Candidates are encouraged to enroll concurrently in for a "Masters of Science" degree through the Clinical and Translational Science program in the OUHSC Graduate College.

Note:  A two (2) year option is possible for those already having an MS or those wishing to by-pass the MS, but only with permission from the Program Director confirming the resident is on track to qualify for the ACLAM certifying exam.
