The Flower-Sprecher Veterinary Library propels the advancement of health and wellness of animals and people.  We empower the teaching, learning, research, scholarship and wellbeing of Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine students, staff, faculty and alumni, and the veterinary community at large.

As a core member of the Flower-Sprecher Veterinary Library team, this person will facilitate access to a world-class veterinary collection by maintaining core veterinary library assets. Primary duties will include fulfilling interlibrary loan and document delivery requests, supporting the Veterinary Library public service desk, maintaining an orderly and accessible collection through regular collection management activities, coordinating the binding of journals and related materials, finalizing the processing of new and donated monographs for the various Vet Library collections, and assisting patrons with reference inquiries.

Access Services (60%):

  • Provide essential support at the Veterinary Library's public services desk.
  • Assist library users and staff with basic reference inquiries, both in person and remotely.
  • Manage interlibrary loan, borrow direct, and document delivery requests efficiently.
  • Identify and implement policies and procedures to enhance access to the library's collection.
  • Flexibility to support other unit libraries as required.

Collection Maintenance & Bindery (25%):

  • Coordinate and execute regular collection maintenance tasks, including shelving and shelf reading.
  • Train student employees to help with collection maintenance, bindery, or other tasks as needed.
  • Participate in annual project planning for collection maintenance.
  • Conduct thorough searches for missing items and manage clean-up lists.
  • Process incoming materials and maintain various collections.
  • Oversee book donations, including selection and integration processes.

Other Position-Related Responsibilities (15%):

  • Contribute to special projects as needed.
  • Maintain and update online resources, including the Veterinary Library Website and LibGuides.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

The preferred weekly schedule for this position is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday opening through early afternoon. Though some flexibility is possible, we’d like for this position to regularly open Fridays.  Scheduled hours may change, depending on the needs of the library. Access Services staff may work in other libraries, as needed.

This is a part-time, 20 hours per week position.
