Veterinary Assistant - Urgent Care

The College of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Medical Center seeks two Veterinary Assistants to join the Dublin Urgent Care team. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to assist in the provision of care to ill and injured animals as well as providing assistance to clinicians, staff and professional students in the days to day operations of the Veterinary Medical Center-Dublin. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: providing basic patient care functions; assisting in the collection of lab specimens such as blood, urine, and feces for testing; assisting with patient assessment, restraint and treatments; assisting with training student employees in prescribed care of animals; comforting and caring for hospitalized animal patients; walking patients and providing clean housing, food, and water at all times; monitoring patients and notifying higher level technician or veterinarian of any unusual changes or symptoms; assisting with the admission and discharge of patients including loading and unloading of animals; delivering specimens to necropsy; stocking supplies including feed, medical supplies and equipment; cleaning and disinfecting treatment and surgical areas, animals housing units, adjacent areas and supporting equipment following prescribed sanitation procedures and observing rules of epidemiology to prevent spread of disease; carrying out prescribed bedding; performing daily cleaning of outdoor dog exercise areas and VMC-Dublin entrances; cleaning of all animal areas including windows, floors, light covers, ledges, hallways, vents, receiving rooms etc.; notifying supervisor of need for non-routine repairs; assisting with laundry; providing clerical support when necessary; and other duties as assigned. The successful candidates will be expected to work 30 hours a week, primarily on second shift. The position may require working rotating weekends and rotating holidays. This position is subject to a background check prior to starting.


Additional Information:

The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $15.00/hr. to $16.00/hr.
