The University of South Alabama’s department of Veteran Affairs is seeking to hire a Veteran Affairs Specialist II. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions


These are the job duties required of the position.


Essential Functions
  • Oversees the activities of the Veteran Affairs Office (VA) academic records staff engaged in the creation and maintenance of all relevant VA student records for the University and the processing of VA debts and ensures the accurate posting and certifications each semester to the VA student records.
  • Works closely with the University Student Accounting Office to ensure students debts are paid back to the VA and/or students are reimbursed correctly by the University each semester.
  • Oversees the verifying, correcting and filing of various monthly reports.
  • Advises students as to any academic requirement or changes made by the US Department of Veteran Affairs regarding their educational benefits.
  • Works with Deans and Academic Advisors of various colleges in matters relative to new or transfer students using their GI Bill educational benefits.
  • Adheres to student confidentiality rights as legislated by FERPA in handling all academic records and responding to third-party requests.
  • Assumes all the duties of the VA School Certifying Official for the Department of VA and the University.
  • Acts as a secondary supervisor for all VA work-study students in the office.
  • Maintains status as a Federal level School Certifying Official.
  • Processes all VA educational and military related benefits as it pertains to the State of Alabama, as well as Federal Public Law, to include: Title 38 U.S.C., Chapters 30, 31 and 33.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Related duties as required.
