Summary of Duties

Vet Care Tech-Tier II-Supervisor Rehab: Performs all the duties as a Veterinary Care Technician – Tier II but also coordinates the activities within a specified service including coordination of clinical support activities for the service area and supervision of staff including RVTs and Veterinary Assistants. Work involves assisting a veterinarian in technical procedures and activities involving animal health and disease within the specialty area of the Small Animal Physical Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine. Successful candidate will assist team clinicians and care-giving colleagues with the reception, treatment, and monitoring of all patients within the unit. Specific duties may involve floating or cross-training through various areas to develop skills and techniques.

The successful candidate will focus on quality patient care and providing guidance, direction, supervision, and assistance to other veterinary care staff in order to attain/maintain optimum quality of care to patients in the Small Animal Physical Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine unit. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: organizes, directs, and provides helpful and collegial assistance to professional students, clinicians, residents, and technical students during receiving appointment hours; demonstrate a high-level of competence in veterinary care situations; manages complex, predictable and unpredictable veterinary care situations including specialized medical procedures and post op care (monitoring patient status, assisting in patient evaluation, administering medication, maintaining medical records, collecting/preparing/and submitting samples, communicating with services); performs client communication including follow up calls, prescription refills, reporting lab results, appointment scheduling; assists with assessment and delivery of therapeutic treatments for patients including operating the underwater treadmill, laser, E-Stim, manual therapy; admits drop-offs, writes discharge summaries, discharges patients and answers general questions; coordinates patient drop-offs and all rehab appointments; assists with acupuncture appointments; assists with coordination and evaluation of students that rotate through the service; enters charges for all procedures and tests performed on patients; supervises and manages technical and non-technical staff within the service; manages search process including selection and interviews; trains staff on the latest best practices in patient care; monitors staff performance and completes and delivers each phase of the performance management process; coordinates staff schedules including approving time and leave; develops, updates, and maintains a training manual and plan for new hires; develops, implements, and manages relevant policies and procedures necessary for appropriate staffing and operational needs; oversees and resolves performance or operational issues; assists with and provides direct instruction and orientation of veterinary and veterinary technician students; ensures staff in service are accurately recording charges in clients records for services and supplies received through the course of treatment; works with service faculty and Assistant Director of Patient Care to develop and maintain up to date SOP’s for the service; and other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will be expected to work 40 hours a week with hours to be determined by the unit. Schedule is subject to change due to the needs of the service. Successful candidate must be a Registered Veterinary Technician in the state of Ohio and complete a background check.

Physical Requirements: Standing for long periods of time, pushing/pulling/lifting up to 50 pounds, exposure to animal dander and/or zoonotic diseases, exposure to needle sticks, hazardous chemicals, and/or biohazardous waste.
Requires weekend, nights, and/or holiday hours.

Pre Employment Screening Requires the successful completion of a background check.
Required Qualifications

2-Year College degree. State of Ohio Registered Veterinary Technician at the time of hire; must have CCRP/CCRT certification or have completed didactic training for certification.

Desired Qualifications

Minimum three years of RVT experience including a combination of RVT and Veterinary Assistant AND some leadership experience in the form of team lead, coordinator, or other position.
