Job Description


Paul D. Camp Community College (Camp) is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a center in Smithfield.
Camp Community College (Camp) has hosted a Verizon STEM Achievers Summer camp (formerly VIL Camp for middle school girls) at its Workforce Development Center on the Franklin campus since July 2017. Launched in partnership with Verizon and the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE), and Arizona State University the VIL STEM Achievers camp introduces rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders to the field of STEM. This 4-week summer camp and 2 post camp days introduces campers to coding, 3D printing, augmented and virtual reality, design thinking, a mentorship program and much more.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Be able to operate the 4-week camp in a face to face (and online when needed) learning environment and in person camp when director is not present (and during the 2 expos during the school year).
• Plan and lead mentorship program in small and larger group settings.
• Facilitate recreational activities.
• Mediates discipline issues and provide intervention methods.
• Morning and afternoon check-in and out of campers.
• Serve lunch.
• Assist teachers in the classroom and/or substitute teach as needed.
• Assist in curriculum development and activities, participation, and engagement of each student through the mentoring program and STEM Challenges.
• Provide transportation to campers with college vehicle(s).
• Assist Director and Assistant Director as needed.
• Other duties as needed.
This is a part-time/wage grant funded position. Continuation of employment is based on funding availability.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Additional Considerations
Current college student or college graduate. Experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, counseling, or related field.

Additional Information
This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours during the 12 month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.
