Position Summary
This position supports startup founders and students interested in VC/investment careers and helps them connect with resources they need, including each other, to advance their ideas and develop their skills. The Analyst implements programs and startup investment sequencing in the Center’s Venture Growth portfolio and designs inducements to support students, faculty, and alumni innovators university-wide.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Identifies promising startups with WashU DNA that are currently seeking investments or are moving towards raising a new round. Meets with founders and startups to evaluate ideas and technologies. Performs due diligence on promising ventures to make recommendation for possible investment, including potential business models, market size, milestones, intellectual property, resource needs, and potential partnerships.
  • Supports the Center’s venture growth pipeline and Skandalaris Programs including the WashU Venture Network. Conducts outreach to student and alumni participants, manage venture growth intake, compile data, and share results. Recruits, trains, and develops student analysts for WashU Venture Network, ensuring the highest quality and standards are upheld as startups and investors engage with the Center. Advises and resources students/alumni applying for regional/national/international accelerator programs.
  • Manages budget for Venture Growth programs; Provides general operational support for the Center and Venture Growth team; Tracks financial investments made by the Center. Ensures efficiencies and data analysis for the venture development pipeline, including reporting program, investments, and gap funding success for all stakeholders.
  • Manages CRM platform (AirTable) and actively track metrics as it relates to Venture Growth. Ensures ongoing and accurate collection of data and metrics are being pulled into the CRM and develop functional reporting systems and dashboards for the Center leadership and operation teams. Collects and analyzes data for rankings and other reporting needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in venture capital or startups.
  • Graduate degree in business, finance, or entrepreneurship.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines with varying degrees of pressure; ability to exercise judgment and take corrective action.
  • Investor and LP management.
  • Background working in entrepreneurial support organizations or directly at a startup venture.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, and Access), AirTable Software Management, and Pitchbook.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, written and verbal; a service-oriented communicator who is a true team player.
  • Strong creative and problem-solving skills, organizational skills, event management, attention to detail, and customer service skills.
  • Self-starter with excellent project management, technical, communication (both written and oral), and interpersonal skills.
  • Desire to work in environment of growth and change.
  • Works independently in an environment of multiple and conflicting priorities and projects; anticipates and resolves problems and updates leadership on status of projects.
  • Good professional judgment, initiative, and confidence.
  • Works independently but has the ability to function as part of a team, coordinating with multiple constituencies.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with three years of related experience or equivalent education and experience.

Salary Range
$48,700.00 - $80,500.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
