Position Description

To provide quality shipping and handling services, warehouse packaging and Housekeeping services; This position provides for the safe, efficient, and timely packaging and delivery of campus materials and supplies to university buildings and storage areas.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Requires appropriate licenses or certifications to operate assigned types of vehicles or equipment.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of safe driving/defensive driving methods, chemicals, and equipment. Ability to operate assigned motor vehicles, moving & heavy-duty lift equipment, as well as cleaning equipment. Ability to inspect and clean equipment to keep functioning properly and efficiently. Ability to mix and use chemicals safely. Ability to follow safety procedures and Material Safety Data Sheets consistent with job safety analysis (Hazard Management Plan) and use appropriate personal protective equipment, follow manufacturer instructions, and apply ergonomic practices when performing cleaning duties, operating equipment mixing and using chemicals. Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others, in order to encourage and support communication, teamwork, and a respectful work environment. Functions as a team player, and strives to achieve excellence and promote collegiality. Ability to maintain an appropriate demeanor in stressful situations and lead by example. Ability to understand and follow work orders and product labels. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, department management, and other department staff. Ability to work on weekends outside of regular work hours as needed by the department.
Position is designated an adverse weather emergency position and the employee is subject to being placed on-call and is required to report to work in the event of an adverse weather emergency.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess a good driving record. The preferred candidate will possess the demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing about work assignments. The Vehicle Operator is a primary contact with the group’s University customers (faculty, staff, students, and visitors) and should be committed to outstanding customer service and be able to communicate effectively and positively with these clients orally and in writing. Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of customer service and work practices appropriate to a high-functioning workforce.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Must possess a valid NC Driver’s license or the ability to obtain by your potential start date.

Special Physical and Mental Requirements

Work is routine and repetitive in nature and may require strenuous physical exertion. Applicants must be able to move objects weighing up to 75 lbs., and climb stairs. Employees are required to adhere to safety requirements by wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment.
