The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Department of Sociomedical Sciences, in Columbia University???s Mailman School of Public Health seeks to fill a Qualitative Researcher- Variable Hours Officer position as part of a research project entitled, ???Marriage, Orthodoxy, and a Vision of Empowerment??? (MOVE). MOVE is collecting qualitative data to describe the range of marital experiences of Orthodox or formerly Orthodox Individuals in New York and will analyze that data to develop a taxonomy of experiences, understand how those experiences are socially patterned, and identify modifiable dimensions of the social context that can lead to strategies to increase marital, sexual, and reproductive self-determination. The MOVE research is being carried out by a team of Columbia researchers, in collaboration with leadership and staff at Unchained at Last, which is providing funding for the project.
Responsibilities
The variable hours officer, who will work approximately 120 hours total on MOVE, will:
Help develop and implement a strategy to recruit male-identified individuals for in-depth interviews and focus groups- 25%
Conduct in-depth interviews with male-identified individuals (which includes scheduling, interviewing, writing up post-interview reflections, reading through the transcripts, discussing with the research team, and making recommendations for modifications to the interview guide)- 25%
Moderate focus group discussions with male-identified individuals (which includes scheduling the focus groups, facilitating the groups, taking notes, writing up post-focus group notes, reading through the transcripts, discussing with the research team, and making recommendations for modifications to the focus group guide)- 25%
Participate in weekly research team meetings- 15%
Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested- 10%
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor???s Degree
Preferred Qualifications
Professional experience conducting research with or providing services to male-identifying individuals in the Haredi, Yeshivish, Litvish, Chabad, or other observant Jewish groups
Other Requirements
Strong written and communication skills
Experience with qualitative research
Prior knowledge about the Orthodox Jewish community
Helpful but not required:
Experience conducting research with male-identified individuals fluent in Yiddish.
