Associate UX Designer


Job Description

EdPlus is seeking to hire a UX Designer Associate who will deliver high-quality, innovative designs across our digital portfolio. This UX Designer Associate will be responsible for partnering with other cross-discipline teams to prioritize features and deliver world-class experiences. The EdPlus UX design team focuses on many high-profile university partnerships and will require expertise in multiple design disciplines.  This role will also work closely with the UX research and product teams to maintain a pulse of health on launched experiences. Under the supervision of the UX Design Manager, this position will focus on designing advanced technologies that are pushing the limits of EdTech solutions across the landscape of higher education.

The EdPlus User Experience team is responsible for designing solutions and enhancing our current technology stack for a variety of user experience challenges as part of an innovative environment refining how users engage with higher education. Working collaboratively in diverse teams, creates forward-thinking and thoughtful experiences ensuring our digital products and designs support ASU and EdPlus overall strategy and goals.

Salary Range

$60,000 - $72,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Adhere to brand standards on typography, colors, and spacing using the EdPlus design system or co-branding requirements.
  • Being a voice for the user and continuously advocating for improved experiences.
  • Identify and troubleshoot UX design problems (e.g. responsiveness, usability, accessibility, etc...).
  • Gather and evaluate design requirements in collaboration with stakeholders and engineers.
  • Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows, sitemaps and prototypes.
  • Create powerful animations, graphics and illustrations that are leveraged to enhance the experience of different types of user interfaces.
  • Able to give accurate time estimates for work; set deadlines.
  • Work in an agile environment using Jira to help prioritize and organize projects.
  • Present drafts and final products to stakeholders, partners and leadership through the lens of our students.
  • Working directly with web developers to ensure successful implementation.
  • Use UX design research and best practices to assist evolving and elevating digital experiences with a good understanding of current industry trends.
  • Transform ideas into creative, robust experiences under technology and time constraints, working closely with engineers and data teams.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), HCI, CS related field AND one (1) year of industry experience OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Experience in UI/UX design, including but not limited to graphic and motion design.(1 year)
  • Demonstrated knowledge in creating clean, user-friendly interfaces that drives user engagement and improves the overall student experience using user behavior data.
  • Demonstrated knowledge about design systems  designing wireframes, mockups, and prototypes (Adobe XD preferred but not required).
  • Experience in digital design, graphic design, presentations, infographics, interaction design, and designing mobile applications.
  • Experience designing user journey’s or flows to articulate solutions prior to delivering high-fidelity prototypes
  • Evidence of ability to present designs to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Evidence of interpersonal skills -- building positive working relationships with other team members and groups within EdPlus and across ASU.
  • Evidence of understanding the user, and a strong communicator of the user's perspective throughout the design process.
  • Evidence of working on a collaborative, fast-paced team and with other experts across other disciplines.
  • Evidence of having a good eye for design and is willing to take creative risks.
  • Evidence of maintaining an organized work flow with high quality documentation.
  • Must include or be able to show a recent design project or design work in this area to be considered.
  • Experience working closely with engineers and developers and having a shared vocabulary.
  • Experience bridging design and engineering into scalable solutions.
  • Evidence of ability to create motion graphics and animated videos.
  • Demonstrated understanding of HTML, CSS and JS in addition to designing for bootstrap using responsive design.
  • Experience and knowledge of design operations.
  • Experience in UI and UX design industry and has experience in using data, current trends, and findings.
  • Evidence of a portfolio demonstrating responsive and scalable user-centered design solutions.

Working Environment

EdPlus at ASU is located at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center. The center houses a diverse business community that links technology, research, education and entrepreneurship to position ASU and Greater Phoenix as global leaders in the knowledge economy.

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
