Position Summary
Providing direct, individualized care to both adult and pediatric research participants who are participating in research protocols (phlebotomy and IV insertion, preparing and administering investigational medications, monitoring and observation, performing ECG’s, collecting and processing specimens, other data collection, providing direction and health teaching where applicable in relation to study protocol activities, reporting and recording care rendered, reporting the participant’s response to that care, etc.). Care requirements will be determined by the scope of study participation, the clinical condition of the participant, and the requirements and clinical effects of research procedures.
Engaging independently and professionally with study teams, Principal Investigators and RCMU staff to ensure efficient and successful day-to-day operations and coordination of research studies across various therapeutic areas: recruit, consent and enroll participants to research studies, conduct study visits and collect data per study protocol, perform study procedures, complete case report forms and data entry, track study progress, maintain appropriate logs and records, and data management. These tasks may not be specific to nursing activities depending on the scope of the project.
-Contributing to the RCMU’s and CTRC’s continuous quality improvement efforts including the training of non-licensed research personnel.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Graduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing and current licensure as a registered nurse in the state of North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing with no restrictions or pending actions.
Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or able to obtain within 4 weeks of hire)
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact with a variety of people in a professional, effective, diplomatic manner, with excellent communication skills and a focus on customer service.
- Ability to work independently, as well as function as part of a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Must possess a working knowledge of professional nursing care practices and principles.
- Graduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing and current licensure as a registered nurse in the state of North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing with no restrictions or pending actions.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with a minimum of 6 months of direct clinical nursing experience.
- Minimum of 6 months experience working with human subjects in a clinical research setting.
-Minimum of 6 months experience working as a pediatric nurse.
-Possess a variety of healthcare experience with an emphasis on medical-surgical nursing.
-Experience working at UNC Medical Center in a clinical care area.
-Experience with Epic (UNC Health’s electronic medical record).
-Experience in the administration of biotherapy and/or investigational medication.
-Proficient in intravenous access and/or phlebotomy, with recent experience (in the past 18 months)
-Fluency in Spanish is a plus
