The Institute for Geophysics at The University of Texas at Austin (UTIG) invites applications for a fixed-term Research Associate in Planetary Dynamos. Purpose

Conduct research in Planetary Dynamos.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research focused on numerical modeling of Uranus' and Neptune's interior dynamics and magnetic field generation

  • Develop independent research projects and/or co-mentor students if desired; contribute to and lead research within a vibrant and diverse group of students, postdocs, and laboratory staff working on problems in planetary fluid dynamics


Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Planetary Science, Physics, or a related field

  • Competence and experience with planetary dynamo codes, such as MagIC and Rayleigh, and familiarity with supercomputing

  • Research experience with giant planet science

  • Track record of publication in the field


Preferred Qualifications

Two years experience with planetary dynamo codes and supercomputing


Salary Range

$100,000 + depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
