Description of Work Unit | The UCF Program Specialist is a staff member of the Communications and Communities Division of the Colorado State Forest Service. The administration of UCF Programs is carried out under the direction of the Associate Director of Communications and Communities. |
Position Summary | Under the direct supervision of the Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) Program Manager, this position is responsible for providing community forestry assistance and programs to field units, partners, and communities in Western Colorado integrated with the agency’s broader program of work. This position operates out of the Grand Junction Field Office of the CSFS, with the potential for flexible work arrangements, including remote work. Candidates must be able to travel to locations through western Colorado and occasionally to CSFS offices in Broomfield and Fort Collins for staff meetings, etc. |
Required Job Qualifications | - A bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, landscape architecture, or a related program of study. - Four years of combined field forestry and forest management program administration experience. - Successful applicants must have a valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to acquire one upon employment. |
Preferred Job Qualifications | - Experience working with established and new community groups and nonprofit organizations to provide professional forestry expertise in support of their urban and community initiatives, programs, and projects. - Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively in diverse teams. - Ability to work collaboratively and advance outcomes with internal staff and external partners and cooperators. - Capable of effectively documenting accomplishments and keeping program records. - Experience writing, reviewing, and implementing forest management plans. - Experience in preparing and administering grants, contracts, and agreements for forest management work. - Experience in organizing, developing, and delivering public presentations, events, and other informational and educational activities. - Current International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist credential. - Committed to safety, quality, professionalism, and excellent customer service. - Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. - Basic knowledge of western United States forest management and related issues. - Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software products. - Familiarity with desktop and online GIS products and platforms. |
