Job Summary/Basic Functions

Summer Core Instructor Positions:
The EKU Upward Bound program is seeking summer instructors for the 2024 Summer Chautauqua to teach Mathematics, English, Science, or Foreign Language.
The Upward Bound Summer Chautauqua is a six-week, college-preparatory program housed on EKU’s campus which will take place from June 8th- July 18th. Students will live on campus and take classes through this simulated college experience. Classes will run for 4 weeks, Monday through Thursday, beginning on June 10th and ending on July 2nd.
Approximately 15-20 students will attend each class meeting. An instructor can expect to teach four sections and have a 9a-3p workday, Monday through Thursday. Instructors will have a 50-minute planning period and a one-hour duty-free lunch each day on campus. Depending on position, these courses should introduce content that would allow students to excel in the Fall during their next academic year.
Instructors are expected to design and implement a curriculum for the courses that will allow students to expand their mind, gain independence, and participate in this simulated college experience. In addition, are expected to attend a brief orientation in late May, an awards banquet for students, and an end of summer debrief meeting.
Senior Seminar & Election Position:
The EKU Upward Bound program is seeking a summer instructor for the 2024 Summer Chautauqua to teach UB’s Senior Seminar course and an elective course.
The Upward Bound Summer Chautauqua is a six-week, college-preparatory program housed on EKU’s campus which will take place from June 8th- July 18th. Students will live on campus and take classes through this simulated college experience. Classes will run for 4 weeks beginning on June 10th and ending on July 2nd.
Approximately 15-20 students will attend each class meeting. An instructor can expect to teach four sections and have a 9a-3p workday, Monday & Wednesday. Instructors will have a 50-minute planning period and a one-hour duty-free lunch each day on campus.
This position will require the design and implementation of one Senior Seminar course that is used to teach scholarship essay writing, resume design, and other aspects necessary for success as a Senior in high school. This instructor will then teach three sections of an elective of their choice. Instructors are expected to attend a brief orientation in late May, an awards banquet for students, and an end of summer debrief meeting.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able to demonstrate experience in field of expertise.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to applicants with prior Upward Bound/ TRIO programs experience or experience teaching traditionally under served populations.
