Summary of Position:  
The Mills College at Northeastern University Upward Bound (MCUB) TRIO Program is funded by the U.S. Department of EducationMCUB is designed to enhance the academic skills of low-income, first-generation college-bound high school students in the Oakland and West Contra Costa Unified School District with the goal that participants will pursue post-secondary education. TRiO is funded by the U. S. Department of Education. The Summer Enrichment Program will provide academic instruction in core subjects:  English, Sciences, and Mathematics .  MCUB will also provide courses and workshops exploring various topics: Life Skills, Study Skills, College Preparation, Career Exploration, and Cultural Awareness.   


Summer Enrichment Program Description  


The MCUB Program offers a six-week summer academic enrichment program for students entering grades 9th-12thThe MCUB summer program will be conducted on the Mills at Northeastern  Campus. Staff orientations will likely take place June 4th5th 10:30 am to 4 pm. Instruction for the MCUB Summer Program is scheduled to begin Monday, June 17th and continues through Thursday, July 25th.   


 


The Mills College at Northeastern University Upward Bound (MCUB) TRIO Program is currently seeking 7-9 highly motivated, knowledgeable, creative, engaging, student focused, experienced Resident Advisors to assist the Upward Bound Director, and Associate Director with the two-week dorm stay. The dorm stay will be July 7th through July 19th, 2024.  


 


Daily Schedule  


Week 1 – Residential Stay  


Sunday – 3 pm to 11 pm  


Monday – 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 11 pm  


Tuesday – 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 11 pm 


Wednesday - – 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 11 pm 


Thursday - 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 11 pm  


Friday - 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 5 pm or when the last student has gone.  


 


Week 2 - Residential Stay 


Sunday – 3 pm to 11 pm   


Monday – 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 11 pm   


Tuesday – 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 11 pm  


Wednesday - – 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 11 pm 


Thursday - 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 11 pm   


Friday - 7:30 am to 5 pm or when the last student has gone.   


 


 


Essential Job Functions:  


  • The primary responsibilities for Resident Advisors include:  

  • Must stay in the dorms overnight  

  • Providing supervision of all residential students.  

  • Assisting in the set-up and clean-up of the UB residence hall common areas or other rooms used by the program.  

  • Assisting in gathering supplies for program activities.  

  • Supervising free time activities for students.  


  • Providing academic assistance during study hall.  

  • Supervising UB students during field trips and/or program events.  

  • Assisting in planning, coordinating, and implementing social, cultural, and recreational activities.  

  • Following and enforcing the rules and regulations of the College and the Upward Bound Program at all times. 

  • Providing supervision during mealtimes.  

  • Participating in nightly staff meetings with the residential team.  

  • Supervising use of all program equipment and immediately reporting any misused, missing or damaged property to the Director/Associate Director.  

  • Assisting in enhancing the living environment and promoting an educational atmosphere in the residence hall.  

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Program Directors.   

  • Prepare students for End of Summer Showcase: An opportunity for all students to show what they learned during the summer. (July 18th, 5pm-8pm)  


Knowledge of:  


  • Thorough knowledge of subject matter and skill acquisition in subject being taught. 

  • Knowledgeable of California Content standards for subject area (academic courses) 

  • Knowledge of child/adolescent development and different learning styles 


Skills/Abilities:  


  • Skills and knowledge to effectively work with students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic and ethnic backgrounds. 

  • Ability to understand and enforce all MCUB Program policies.  


 


Education and Training: 


 


  • Minimum of 2 years of post-secondary education completed 


 


Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands: 


  • Requires passing fingerprinting and a background check. 

  • Requires certificate of completion of Mandated Reporting Training within the last year.
