General Description
The residence hall staff is responsible for the supervision of UMUB students in the residence hall during the Summer Academy and for tutoring UMUB students during the evening tutoring sessions. Applicants must, first and foremost, enjoy working with high school aged students, understand their needs, and be able to tolerate their often-irrational behavior. Preference will be given to graduate students or upper-level undergraduates.
$10 per hour up to 200 hours, plus room and board.
Duty hours are from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., Sunday evening through Friday morning.
Essential Job Duties
  • Live in Main Hall and supervise students during duty hours, enforcing UMUB rules and policies as well as UM residence hall rules and policies, and responding to emergencies.
  • Tutor students in an academic subject or ACT areas as needed.
  • Plan, implement, and supervise evening activities, including reserving university space and equipment.
  • Attend an in-person team-building training and other summer planning events on May 11th from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Wills Hall.
  • Assist students and UMUB staff on student move-in day on June 2nd and move-out date on July 3rd. Duties for this includes, but is not limited to, checking materials, transporting materials, preparing residence hall bulletin boards and doors, requesting supplies as needed, pre-inventorying rooms, and posting students names on doors.
  • Complete room inspections and document findings as needed.
  • Assist UMUB staff with emptying Main Hall of any UMUB items and supplies, ensuring that all items are returned to correct
  • Some duties are required on a rotating basis as decided among the RA staff. These duties include, but at not limited to, attending the weekly lunch staff meetings in the cafeteria on Wednesdays, assisting with student check outs after the conclusion of each week, nighttime on-call duty for emergencies, and early student move-out supervision
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Upper-class undergraduate student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and two written recommendations.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Ability to work with an adolescent age group, understand their needs, and tolerate the often-irrational behavior of teenagers
  • Ability to maintain punctuality and professionalism when working with students, their families, and UMUB staff
  • Ability to act efficiently and quickly in cases of emergencies to contact UM Police, UMUB Staff, and keep students calm
  • Preference will be given to applicants with housing experience
