University Tax Associate

This position supports the university tax compliance, research, education, and reporting processes involving campus financial stakeholders, and governmental agencies. The position will accumulate and report information regarding income, international payee withholding, and excise tax matters to federal, state, and local governments. This work will include assisting with the preparation of and filing information returns and other quarterly and annual tax filings. 

What you'll do in this position: 

  • Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) reporting to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and various states.
  • Form 990 (Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax) filings for various entities.
  • Nonresident Alien (NRA) payment approval and reporting.
  • Data accumulation for and preparation of required Form 1099 annual filings and corrections.
  • Foreign Bank Account Reporting (FBAR)
  • Other duties.

What qualifies you for this role:

Required (Level 54)

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU. 
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax, or related degree and 5 years general accounting, or 3 years public accounting experience or the equivalent combination of both education and experience.

Required (Level 55)

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU. 
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax, or related degree and 7 years general accounting, or 4 years public accounting experience or the equivalent combination of both education and experience.

Preferred 

  • Master's degree in tax, accounting, or business.
  • Certified Public Accountant or related professional certification.
  • Minimum of three years' experience with corporate or not-for-profit tax research, return preparation, and review. 

Skills, Abilities, Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications:

Required:

  • Experience researching applicable tax law including the Internal Revenue Code, Treasury Regulations, state tax law, and other guidance, along with the ability to interpret relevant facts and apply them to specific situations.
  • Advanced proficiency with office software.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, as well as emotional intelligence skills
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Self-starter and ability to take initiative.

Preferred:

  • Experience in the higher education environment.
  • Experience with webpage management "Brightspot".
  • Experience with IRS e-services account.
  • Experience with SQL and querying databases.

Level 54: $77,500 to $100,500 

Level 55: $86,500 to $112,500
